Welcome back! It been a long time. I think this is the penultimate stage before flying the model. I this episode I’m getting down with painting the beast. It’s looking really good.
I found a couple of really good paint suppliers in the U.K. These are Graff City and Cass Art. Graff City do really nice graffiti spray paint and are pretty cheap. I talking a couple of quid for a standard large spray can and then Liquitex spray paint from Cass Art, which are around six quid a tin. Both are excellent. The Liquitex brand goes on slightly wetter so can make masking out more tricky, as the paint is more likely to seep under the masking tape. Anyways here are some pics 🙂
Bold camo colours! This is Liquitex spray paint. Only 90% done but the finish is gorgeous!
close up cockpit detail. You know, I really enjoyed doing this 🙂
part painted
another angle. The grey paint was from Graff City and masked beautifully.
Check out the pilot – he means business!
Lots of instrumentation. I reduced photocopied it then stuck it to a piece of thin balsa sheet. The shroud is from stiff paper painted black.
looking great – except for a little cloudiness in the moulded canopy, which is a shame. I’m still happy with the result though 🙂
Extra paint detailing at the front! All the markings have been added now at the time of writing. Coming on nicely.
Exhaust end. The proportions have turned out really nice on this plane 🙂
here’s the spring starter behind the fan. The increased hatch area now makes the engine and fan more accessible. And the fan now fits nicely on the engine.
the business end! I had a new aluminium bush turned up by a local machine shop which was then pushed into the fan, as the plastic bush wouldn’t work. This new one works really well.
